A Correlation between Localized States and Meyer-Neldel Relation in Crystallization Process of Amorphous Sete Films

Image
Abstract Electrical conductance is measured in amorphous SeTe films to investigate the crystallization mechanism in the system. The crystallization is found to occur at the sample-substrate interface. The Arrhenian temperature dependence of crystallization velocity estimates the activation energy. The Meyer-Neldel relation (MNR) has been observed in amorphous SeTe films through a correlation between pre-exponential of growth velocity and activation energy. The presence of localized states in amorphous chalcogenides and its relation to viscosity for controlling crystallization mechanism in films is discussed. PACS:  71.23.-k; 72.15.Cz; 73.61.Jc; 77.84.Bw Go to Introduction Crystallization in amorphous Se-Te binary and ternary alloys has been studied using various techniques such as Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC) [1], Differential Thermal Analysis (DTA) [2-3], Electron Microscopy [4-5] etc. The electrical conductivity has been previously used to determine t...

Structural and Electrical Properties of Multivalent Pr Doped Ceria: A Short Review

Image
Abstract Multivalent Pr doped ceria is a potential candidate for SOFCs due to its mixed electronic and ionic conductivity. The valence state of Pr significantly affects the lattice parameter of Pr doped ceria. The lattice parameter mainly depends on the dopant concentration, sintering and switching of valence state. The concentration oxygen vacancies are responsible for ionic conductivity and the oxidation of Pr3+ to Pr4+ is the origin of electronic conductivity. The electronic conductivity increases with the doping concentration and the oxygen partial pressure. Keywords: Pr doped ceria; Mixed conductivity; Oxygen partial pressure Go to Introduction Cubic fluorite structured ceria doped with lower valent cations forms exceedingly oxygen vacancies in the doped ceria lattice. Therefore rare earth doped ceria exhibits high oxygen conductivity at elevated temperatures, which makes it potential candidate for solid electrolyte in intermediate temperature solid oxide fuel cells ...

Kolkata Flyover Collapse- April 2016

Image
Material science - Juniper publishers Background Kolkata is the capital city of West Bengal state within the Indian Union. It covers an area of approximately 185sq. km and current population around 5 million. It is situated on the banks of the river Ganges (GANGA) and is one of the most densely populated cities in the country. To overcome the traffic congestion on the major roads in the business districts, the Govt has undertaken construction of several flyovers which has eased the traffic flow in certain localities. One of the recent ones is a 2.5km stretch in Central Kolkata, having 2 serviceable roads with provision for expansion to 4 lanes in future as traffic flow grows. The location of the flyover is shown in the above map of the city. Construction of the flyover started in 2007 and target completion was scheduled in 2009 to cater to the needs for uninterrupted construction. But due to various constraints specially in getting regulatory clearances as work site situat...

Effective Use of Biomass Wastes for Removing Hazardous Inorganic Ions from Aquatic Environment

Effective Use of Biomass Wastes for Removing Hazardous Inorganic Ions from Aquatic Environment-Juniper Publishers Journal Material Science-Juniper publisher Abstract Trace concentrations of hazardous inorganic anionic species such as arsenate, phosphate, antimonite, selenite and fluoride can be effectively and selectively removed from water by means of adsorption using the gels prepared from biomass wastes such as orange juice residue loaded with multi-valent metal ions such as zirconium (IV). The adsorption capacities of these gels for arsenic are much higher than other adsorbents reported in literatures. Go to Introduction In recent years, pollution of water by various toxic materials has become serious all over the world especially in developing countries, caused by the development of industries in these countries. Among toxic materials, although mercury and lead are the most toxic, arsenic and fluorine are also toxic. Especially, pollution of underground wa...
